The Story, Experience & Heart Behind AfriLux
Hello, and thank you for visiting AfriLux Events. I’m Vanessa Outland, Founder and Principal Planner of AfriLux Events Management, and it brings me great joy to share the story behind this company.
Long before AfriLux became an event management company, the beliefs that would shape it were already taking root in the way I understood people, hospitality, beauty, and celebration.
I am the youngest of ten children in a large Liberian family, and some of my earliest memories are of me being surrounded by family, friends, and a strong sense of community. Weekend cookouts, baptisms, graduations, baby showers, weddings, and milestones of every kind were opportunities to come together, welcome people generously, and honor what mattered.
I learned early that a gathering is about far more than how a space looks. It is about how people are received, how thoughtfully they are considered, and how the experience makes them feel.
That inheritance has stayed with me.
Over the past twenty years, I have planned, designed, and executed experiences ranging from intimate celebrations and milestone events to weddings, corporate gatherings, retreats, nonprofit events, and complex professional programs. In 2021, I earned a Master Certificate in Event Management from the International Institute of Event Management, bringing formal training to years of hands-on experience.
AfriLux officially launched in 2021, carrying forward the hospitality, generosity, artistry, and spirit of celebration that shaped me while bringing together the creativity, strategy, and operational expertise developed throughout my professional career.
Today, those influences form what I think of as AfriLux Luxury—an experience of luxury defined not simply by what you see, but by how deeply you are considered. It is thoughtful hospitality, purposeful beauty, careful preparation, generosity, and excellence working together to create an experience that feels distinctly elevated.
That is the standard behind every AfriLux experience.
Corporate & Government Expertise
For more than a decade, my professional career has required the same skills that strong event management demands: strategic thinking, thoughtful preparation, cross-functional coordination, adaptability, and exceptional attention to detail.
My experience includes planning and managing:
• Executive and team-building retreats
• Multi-day leadership workshops and strategic planning sessions
• Business milestone and recognition events
• Organizational culture and employee engagement programs
• Complex initiatives involving cross-functional teams, senior leaders, and mission-driven outcomes
Throughout my professional career, I have served in senior advisory and leadership roles focused on workplace excellence, employee engagement, and organizational culture. That experience strengthened my ability to manage complex initiatives where people, purpose, logistics, and organizational goals must work together.
Today, that expertise informs AfriLux’s approach to corporate events, retreats, holiday celebrations, milestone events, team experiences, and other professional gatherings.
We understand that a successful corporate event must do more than look impressive. It must accomplish what it was designed to achieve.
Nonprofit Leadership & Community Impact
My experience also extends into nonprofit leadership and community service. As a founding board member of a nonprofit organization focused on empowering minority youth, I have helped support initiatives designed to create pathways for education, community support, and personal success.
That work has included experience with:
• Annual galas and fundraising events
• Community outreach programs
• Youth-centered initiatives
• Volunteer mobilization
• Event planning and logistics
My nonprofit leadership has strengthened my understanding that events can serve a purpose far beyond gathering people in a room. They can build community, advance a mission, raise critical support, recognize achievement, and create moments that remind people why the work matters.
That perspective informs the care AfriLux brings to nonprofit events, fundraisers, galas, community events, and mission-driven gatherings.

Your Moment Deserves Thoughtful Care.
Let’s create an experience worthy of what you’re celebrating.
Why AfriLux?
AfriLux was shaped by inheritance, strengthened by experience, and built with intention.
What began with the lessons I learned around family, hospitality, celebration, and community has grown into a team committed to creating experiences where people feel genuinely considered.
Today, AfriLux brings together thoughtful event planning, creative design, detailed coordination, warm hospitality, and disciplined execution to serve social, wedding, corporate, and nonprofit clients.
Our work may look different from one event to the next, because every client, guest, purpose, and celebration is different. But the standard behind the work remains the same.
We plan intentionally.
We prepare thoroughly.
We design purposefully.
We serve generously.
And we care deeply about how people experience the moments entrusted to us.
Because while the scale of an experience may change, our standard of care does not.
Our goal is not simply to create something beautiful. It is to create an experience that adds something meaningful to the people who encounter it.
We want people to leave better because AfriLux was there.
…because dates in the calendar are closer than they appear…
Here’s what our past clients had to say.
